Saskatchewan. His breeding program focusses primarily on milling oat, but also devotes effort towards forage oat. The CDC oat breeding program has released five varieties over the past seven years, including CDC Ruffian, CDC Arborg and CDC Haymaker.
Dr. Beattie’s research is directed primarily towards understanding the genetic basis of disease resistance and developing genetic-based selection methods to improve oat breeding.
He is currently a member of the Prairie Recommending Committee for Oat and Barley and the Quaker International Nursery Executive Committee and is the Oat Coordinator for the Saskatchewan Advisory Council on Grain Crops.
