Jason Lenz is the region three director and vice-chair of Alberta Barley. Lenz farms 2,500 acres of canola, wheat, barley, and faba beans and operates a small cow/calf commercial herd southwest of Bentley in west-central Alberta.
Lenz first joined Alberta Barley as a delegate in the fall of 2009. Since then, he has served on Alberta Barley’s research, policy, and governance committees, the GrainsWest magazine board, and was the Alberta Barley representative for the Barley Council of Canada for two years.
Lenz is passionate about the barley industry and knows very well how the crop works from an agronomic and marketing perspective. His input and leadership around the board table has helped raise the profile of barley in Alberta. Lenz has long advocated for barley and provided renewed optimism about this grain as a valuable option in both the feed side through livestock and the malt side with macro- and micro-breweries.
